Great prices and Tasty food. Not the best parking situation. Only two stalls and limited street parking but worth the effort.
MoreNeed my fried mochi!
Noodles and soup were so full of flavor and delicious! Good prices for the quality and quantity of food you receive. Sit outside because the inside seating is hot. Other than that I highly recommend this place.
MoreEarly bird special from 5:00pm - 6:00pm! Ebi ten don (shrimp tempura), yakitori don (Teri chicken), and yakiudon (fried noodles) are my favorites here. Service is quick and friendly. Always hits the spot for great Japanese food!
MoreUdon and tempura are the best
I'm happily surprised this place is still here and makes me feel like a kid again. This is a hole in the wall place that has been there forever and has not changed. There are 2 parking spots or park on the street, lots of parking. Its not fancy but perfect with indoor and outdoor seating that feels like you've stepped into a time machine to an old moiliili Japanese noodle place. My favorite dish is the udon with mochi, The soup and udon is perfect with a few veggies, mushroom and fishcake to top. Mochi in hot broth is amazing. Prices start at $10+.
MoreFeels like one of the small restaurants you see in japan
Best deal in town.
Service was slow and noodles or broth didn't taste well.
Very inexpensive delicious Japanese food with cheery servers. What more could you ask for?
MoreGreat atmosphere it's like being in japan for vacation.. like a tucked away gem..highly recommends it
MoreOnolicious😋✌🙇💕
Boutique Japanese Restaurant, But It's Absolutely Authentic And Everything We Expected. We've Driven Past It Many Times And Finally Decided To Check It Out - Great Menu Got Take Out And Without Question It's Was Fabulous.!!!
MoreSuper good, comfort food! There's a reason why this place has been open for 30 years. Their food is delicious! I've been eating their dinner combos, that come with a bowl of either udon or soba, and a don (rice bowl) with your choice of a topping. The price, $13!!!! Parking is a little rough; 2 stalls only in the front, but there's street parking. I haven't had trouble finding a close stall yet. I highly recommend this place!
MoreHaven't been here in years. What I remembered was their donburi sauce being really, really good. Tonight's visit definitely confirmed what I remembered. Hit the back pot for my stomach!! Will definitely come back soon!!
MoreGreat! Good food.
Best lunch special $6 with tax
I got the katsudon knowing that right down the road Jimbo offers the same thing but for $5 more. Yamagen's katsudon was the real deal and reminded me of home. It was really soulfood to me. I will come back for more and try other things on their menu and continue to update this review. In the meantime, check them out!
MoreIt's good Japanese food. Katsu/Oyaku donburi undefeated. Friendliest service. Use cash.
MoreI dream about their gigantic ebi, the sauce is to die for. Very reasonable prices, a neighborhood establishment. Carryout.
MoreFound this place since other udon places were not open and boy did we luck out on this gem! I love udon and the bf loves Tendon and this has both (among other dishes) and they do them both so well!I knew my bf would go ham on his Tendon and I wont be able to try any from his bowl but Yamagen has a deal of a combo where you can have a rice bowl and an udon bowl for $15. So I had 2 bowls that are slightly smaller (closer to camera) and the bf had a slightly larger bowl of tendon for $12Everything tasted freshly made and delicious, crunchy tempura in fluffy ricen chewy smooth cold udon... MMMSo glad we found this place during our trip!
MoreTonkatsu was crispy and juicy and tender on the inside. Curry was flavorful and spicy just perfect, rice was cooked well. Soba with some of the best soup I've had in a long time.
MoreVery Homie. Another small hole in the wall eatery but tasty. Very friendly workers. Will eat there again.
MoreCute and cozy Japanese restaurant. Only 2 parking stalls but a lot of metered street parking. Early bird take out came with a can of soda too. I love to order the yaki udon and yakitori don.
MoreGreat little spot with very nice owners. Got the combo dinner which was way more food than I expected. Also had the deep fried mochi. Sooooo good. I love these places. Having to go outside to another building were the restroom was added to the experience!
Morereally good japanese food...but they close in between lunch to dinner
Great inexpensive place to eat
Love the small local Japanese eatery. 4 tables inside some out door seating and great inexpensive food. You can byob
Moregreat food, love the udon, and the tempura
Great food for a reasonable price.
I always go here when I'm craving Tonkatsu!
Great service great authentic Japanese food
Nostalgic and still cheap lunch.
It took a long time for someone to take our order and it wasnt very busy. I asked if the tsukemono was homemade & waitress said yes but it was just salty cabbage and wasnt tasty! I was disappointed and didnt eat much of it. The udon noodles were cooked perfect and tasted pretty good. The ika donburi was also disappointing only 2 pieces of ika that when you bite into it all the meat came out of the tempura batter but flavor wasnt bad. Prices are reasonable. I may try again!?
MoreBeen going to Yamagen for years
Excellent udon shop
A very small place but udon is good. There are additional tables outside. Metered parking around the vicinity.
MoreVery good local Japanese dining.
I come here every time for the nabeyaki udon. It's off the hook. Served in a cast-iron kettle, it has everything beautiful under the sun in it - chicken, mizuna, fishcake, egg, etc, topped with a hot crispy shrimp tempura. The broth is perfect.I'd go there on a hot August afternoon just to eat it. Boyfriend has the tonkatsu and it's very flavorful and just right. Easy to miss, it's so tiny! Literally next door to Longs S. King, on the left. Across from the park.
MoreWe heard this place was closing so we came to try. Too bad they had 3 things sold out that we wanted. Curry. Mochi and fried chicken. The udon, bowls were really goodWe came again for the curry and still it was sold out.
MoreA small, out of the way place, but fabulous food that comes quickly and hot. A must if you want great Japanese food
MoreGood prices and the people were terrific 👍
Good food at decent prices! Very small dining area, easy to miss but I really enjoy eating here. :) if there's no parking in front, street parking is available. Try their fried mochi. One order has three pieces and the sweet soy sauce it comes with is delicious. Must eat hot, once it cools, you will have a lump of gelatinous gunk.
MoreFamily run Japanese restaurant that's been in the neighborhood forever. Good tasty food at super reasonable prices.
MoreLittle family owned restaurants like this are disappearing. The food is good and the lunch specials are very affordable.
More😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
The food was awesome as always. Love the potato salad. Grilled mochi and Nabeyaki Udon are always winners.
MoreVery simple but authentic Japanese food. One of the few places, I can still eat when I'm really sick. My tummy loves their food!
MoreThis place has good Japanese food for a GREAT price. Very reasonable! I ordered the katsudon, which was good & only $7. Parking is limited but there is street parking as well.
MoreVery fast and good food.
